Bio

Meriam Avades is a rising senior studying Biological Sciences and Spanish at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. At a young age, Meriam decided that she would one day cure cancer and has dedicated herself to that mission ever since. Aside from her involvement in the Swanson lab, Meriam works as an emergency department medical scribe and serves as the Director of Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem is a nationwide community supporting children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, weeklong summer camps. As the Director of the local chapter at ASU, Meriam leads a team of passionate college students dedicated to creating a fun-filled week of camp for this often overlooked population. Her love for children and hate for cancer has influenced Meriam’s decision to one day become a pediatric oncologist. When she is not studying or singing camp songs, Meriam enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and hiking.

Currently is a MD Candidate at Amerian University of the Caribbean
